1 Thessalonions 5:11
Truck Drivers for a Change
There is a little coffee shop, where two people arrive and approached the counter.
“Five coffees please. Two for us and three hanging.”
They paid, they took their two coffees and left.
I asked the waiter. "What’s this about hanging coffees?"
“Wait and you'll see."
Some more people came in.
Two girls asked for a coffee each, they paid & left.
The following order was for seven coffees, and it was made by three women - ‘three for them and four hanging coffees.’
I was left wondering...what is the meaning of the hanging coffees, they leave.
Then, a man dressed in worn clothes, who looks like he might be homeless, arrives at the counter and asks sincerely...
“Do you have a coffee hanging?"
“Yes, we do, sir.”
They serve him a coffee.... I got my answer.
People pay in advance for a coffee that will be served to whoever can't afford a hot drink.
This tradition started in Naples.
Amazingly, it has spread throughout the world’s cities and towns.
It’s also possible to order not only "hanging coffees" but also a sandwich or a full low-cost meal.
Wouldn’t it be great if we could all start doing this in the cities and towns where we live?
Small kindnesses like this can impact so many lives, in ways we could never imagine.
Maybe we should all try it.
Since he came to our church in 2023, Rev. Coker has implemented "Twelve Commitments for Christ" as part of our mission for God and to make a difference for Christ in Tifton.
Vision, Mission and 12 Commitments for Christ, 2024-2025
Vision – Always Be Christ’s Disciples (ABCD)
Mission - To share how Jesus and His love are real through all Church Activities.
12 Commitments for Christ
1) During the year, we will create video vignettes to communicate online (Website, Facebook, Instagram, etc.) and in worship showing how Christ has become real to some of our church people.
2) We will serve free food in the Fellowship Hall, show an abbreviated version of the movie “Jesus Revolution”, and encourage people to share how Jesus has become real to them.
3) We will create a choir, develop an ensemble, and invite guest musicians to come and inspire us and move us in worship beginning this Fall.
4) We will start a Prayer List in the Bulletin and a Prayer Time every Sunday morning at 10:45 a.m. in the Pastor’s Office.
5) We will have a Back 2 School Bash on Sunday, September 29th following our 11:00 a.m. worship service. We will have free food trucks, ice cream, inflatable bounce house, slide, etc. We will promote it through Facebook Ads and ask people to sign a waiver against injury.
6) We will step out in Faith and “Take Imperfect Action” all year long to make things happen for the mission of Christ.
7) We will get new Audio/Visual equipment up and running in the Balcony and find some volunteers (ABAC Students) to run it.
8) We will create Facebook Prayer Ads, Facebook Plan Your Visit presentations, Facebook Event Ads, and Google My Business Ads all year long to reach new members.
9) We will recruit volunteers to greet visitors, sit with them, staff our Nursery, and make new people feel welcome.
10) We will place a new Flat Screen TV on the Sanctuary Wall above the wooden cross and design it in a picture frame. When not used for videos, it will have the same picture on it as the front of the Bulletin.
11) We will find a family in Tifton that has a need (food, paint, simple construction, repairs, etc.) and organize a mission outreach project to meet that need.
12) We will create a Youth Group from the new families who begin attending and establish regular Youth Group meetings before the year ends.
